Thursday, May 19, 2011 – Phoenix, AZ - Phoenix, AZ – Sonic Masterworks announced this week an exciting new addition to the artist roster and an electrifying release to compliment. The artist goes by the name of Switchup, and serves as the alter-ego of Sonic Masterworks' artist Funkefeller. Funkefeller is widely known for his mad scientist gimic and conducting crazy experiments onstage and in his lab, but then "switches up" into becoming a magical and mysterious wizard.

Switchup describes himself as a producer who prefers to compose his tracks on-the-fly as he goes along. When beginning a new piece of music, he will often start by programming a simple beat, then sequence a baseline as the beat is playing and add parts one by one in this manner. He then tweaks the parameters of the sounds to his heart's content and adds additional samples, sweeps, and fills until he has something he likes.

Watching Switchup create music is a mystical experience in and of itself. Because of his non-linear production workflow, he is able to take this same approach to a live audience. Many have compared the Switchup live experience to watching a composer write scores of music in real time, as if you could hear what he is thinking.
